A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) has a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain with a larger battery and more powerful motors, typically allowing it to run longer in full electric mode without having to run the gasoline engine.
The NX 450h+ uses a series parallel hybrid system, which means it can drive the wheels using either electric motors or gasoline engine or both. A green battery indicator indicates the NX 450h+ can run on the electric motors only. When the battery indicator shows “reduced,” HV mode will be activated automatically, using both the gas engine and electric motors to drive the vehicle as they are needed and available.
When equipped with the 6.6-kilowatt onboard traction battery charger, the NX 450h+ can be charged from fully depleted in approximately 12 hours using a 120-Volt outlet. With a Level 2 EV charger and a 240-Volt outlet, the charge time decreases to about 21⁄2 hours as shown below.
The plug-in hybrid electric battery in the NX 450h+ is designed for long term operation, backed by warranty. It is covered for ten years from the original date of first use or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. Coverage is subject to the terms and conditions of your New Vehicle Limited Warranty. See Owner’s Warranty and Maintenance Guide for details.
To use the supplied 120-Volt Level 1 EV charger and charging cable, use a standard household 120-Volt outlet.
The NX 450h+ is equipped with a 120-Volt Level 1 EV charging cable.
You should never drive the NX 450h+ without gasoline in the tank. While under certain conditions you may drive on electricity alone, the vehicle always requires gasoline to operate properly.
Compared to the NX 350h hybrid powertrain, the NX 450h+ has an increased EV Mode driving range rating, a more powerful electric motor, more horsepower, and enhanced fuel efficiency.
The NX 450h+ has an estimated EV Mode range rating of 37 miles. Actual range will vary depending on a number of factors, including vehicle and battery conditions and how/where you drive your vehicle.
Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles such as the NX 450h+ cannot use Level 3 DC fast charging.
No, but it is generally advantageous to keep the vehicle battery charged. Depending on your electricity rate, you could reduce fuel costs by plugging it in at night. The more often you keep your NX 450h+ battery fully charged, the greater your potential gasoline savings will be.
